Lauku is Latvian for 'countryside' — and this naturally carbonated kvass from the Uzavas Alus brewery on Latvia's western coast lives up to the name. Brewed with barley and rye malt, then lightly acidified with lactic and citric acid, it delivers a clean, malty refreshment with a gentle tang characteristic of traditional bread drinks.
Pasteurised and free from preservatives, it comes in a compact 0.32 L glass bottle — crisp straight from the fridge and equally good at room temperature.
