What they are
Small silver fish from the Baltic Sea, smoked over alder wood until their skin turns deep gold, then packed in oil in the brand’s signature clear glass jar so you can see exactly what you’re buying. Riga Gold has been one of the most recognisable Latvian sprat labels for decades.
The classic move: slices of dark rye, salted butter, a couple of sprats laid flat, a wedge of pickled cucumber, dill. Also good in a Baltic-style open sandwich with boiled egg, or as the savoury element on a cold-cuts board.
