What it is
Pickled sea kale (морская капуста) is the slightly addictive Soviet-era seaweed salad: blanched ribbons of laminaria seasoned with oil, vinegar, sugar, salt and a few spices, then jarred. Skanove makes a version that has stayed popular across the Baltic and UK Eastern European delis.
Eat as a small cold side next to boiled potatoes and fried fish, fold into a "vinegret"-style salad, or stir a spoonful into a quick rice or noodle bowl. Loaded with iodine and minerals, very low in calories.
Ingredients
Sea kale (laminaria) ~60%, water, vegetable oil, sugar, salt, acetic acid (vinegar), spices.
