What it is
Skilandinė (pronounced "ski-lan-dee-neh") is one of Lithuania's most traditional dry-cured meat specialities — a coarsely cut pork product pressed and slowly dried over weeks. It dates back centuries and is recognised as part of Lithuania's culinary heritage.
Delikatesas, founded in Northern Lithuania in 1937, produces a widely respected commercial version. The result is a dense, robustly flavoured sausage with a firm, chewy texture — quite different from an Italian-style salami. Best sliced thick and served simply with good bread.
Ingredients
Pork, beef, pork fat, salt, dextrose, spices (black pepper, garlic, allspice), antioxidant: sodium ascorbate (E301), curing agent: sodium nitrite (E250), starter cultures.
Typical for this style of Lithuanian dry-cured Skilandinė. Exact composition on pack.
