What it is
Riga sprats are a Baltic staple — small sprats (Sprattus sprattus) from the Baltic Sea, cold-smoked over alder wood, then packed in rapeseed oil. Brivais Vilnis has been producing them in Salacgriva on the Latvian coast since 1913.
This dill variant adds a gentle herbal note to the rich, smoky fish. Serve on dark rye bread with a ring of fresh onion, or use as a topping for blini and open sandwiches.
