What it is
Buckwheat groats (yadritsa) are the hulled, roasted kernels of the buckwheat plant — a staple that has sustained generations across Russia, Ukraine, and Eastern Europe. Unlike wheat or barley, buckwheat is not a cereal grass; it is a seed with a deep, nutty flavour that deepens further during toasting.
Makfa's Living Good line selects groats from Altai-region raw material, cleaned and lightly roasted at their Chelyabinsk facility. The result: an amber-brown grain with an earthy, warming character that cooks down into fluffy, separate kernels in 15 to 20 minutes. Serve as a side dish, stir into soups, or prepare a classic buckwheat porridge with butter.
