What they are
Uvelka's «Good Morning» (Доброе утро) line is whole buckwheat groats rolled into thin flakes so they cook in just 3 minutes. The grain is split and pressed, not milled, so the toasty, nutty character of real buckwheat stays intact — only the cook time changes.
Lighter and softer than classic boiled grechka, the flakes give you a warm, slightly creamy porridge that holds its shape. A staple breakfast across Russia and a favourite on its own or as the base for muesli and breakfast bowls.
How to cook
- Stovetop porridge: bring 250 ml of milk or water to a simmer, stir in 40 g (~5 tbsp) of flakes, cook 3 minutes, season with a pinch of salt and a knob of butter.
- Sweet bowl: finish with honey, jam, fresh berries or sliced banana.
- Savoury side: serve with butter, a soft-boiled egg and herbs — a Russian breakfast classic.
- Cold use: stir into yoghurt, blend into smoothie bowls or add to home-baked muesli and granola.
