What they are

Kūčiukai take their name from Kūčios, the Lithuanian Christmas Eve supper of twelve meatless dishes. A lightly sweet yeast dough with poppy seeds is cut into small pieces and baked until dry and crunchy. The Baltasis Pyragas bakery packs them in a festive bag with the Nutcracker on the front.

On Christmas Eve they are traditionally served with aguonų pienas, a cold poppy-seed "milk", and left to soak until soft. They are just as good eaten straight from the bag with tea, and you can soak them in warm milk or toss them with honey and poppy seeds for a quick dessert.
