What it is

Kefir is a cultured milk drink that has been part of everyday life across the Baltics and Eastern Europe for generations. Baltais makes this one in Latvia from milk fermented with a traditional kefir starter, and nothing else. It is pleasantly tart, lightly thick and refreshing, and at 2% fat it is lighter than the classic full-fat version while keeping a creamy body.

Drink it chilled from a glass, at breakfast or as a light evening snack, as many people do. It also works well in cooking. Use it for summer okroshka, fluffy oladyi and blini, soda bread, marinades for chicken, or blend it with berries and a spoonful of honey. Shake the bottle well before pouring.
