Uvelka — Corn Grits in Cook-in Bags (Кукурузная крупа)
Sunny yellow grain — five neat portions for mamaliga, polenta or a creamy sweet porridge.
RUSSIA · UVELKA · 5 × 80 g
What it is
Yellow corn grits — the same grain that becomes Moldovan and Romanian mamaliga, Ukrainian kulesha, or Italian polenta depending on what country it lands in. A long-cooking grain with a mild, slightly sweet flavour and a bright golden colour, naturally gluten-free.
Packed by Uvelka in five food-grade boil-in-bag pouches: the slow cook is easier when timing and proportions are taken care of for you. Eat soft and creamy with butter and brynza/feta cheese, sweet on milk for breakfast, or set firm and slice/grill into "polenta cake".
How to cook
Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil — at least 1.5 litres per bag. Drop in 1 or 2 bags and simmer uncovered for 45–50 minutes, until the grain is fully tender. Lift each bag out by the paper tab, snip the corner with scissors, and tip the cooked grits into a bowl.
- Savoury: stir in butter and grated brynza, feta or hard cheese; serve with cracklings, roast vegetables or a brothy stew.
- Sweet: stir in warm milk, sugar or honey, and a pinch of salt for breakfast porridge.
- Polenta cake: spread the cooked grits in an oiled tray, cool until firm, slice, and pan-fry until golden.
