What they are
Pirozhki are the classic Eastern European hand-held pies — yeasted dough wrapped around a savoury filling, baked until soft and golden. The meat version is filled with seasoned minced pork and/or beef, onion and a little broth, so the inside stays juicy rather than dry.
Eat warm as a quick lunch, take cold to work, pair with a bowl of clear chicken broth or borshch — the pie is the bread and the meat in one neat package.
