What they are
Kūčiukai are the little cookies baked for Kūčios, the Lithuanian Christmas Eve supper of twelve meatless dishes. A lightly sweet yeast dough is flecked with poppy seeds, cut into small pieces and baked until golden and crunchy. This mini version from Home Foods comes in a 200 g bag of fingertip-sized pieces.
On Christmas Eve they are traditionally soaked in aguonų pienas, a cold poppy-seed "milk", until soft. They are just as good straight from the bag with a cup of tea. You can also pour warm milk over a bowlful, like cereal, or toss them with a spoonful of honey for a quick dessert.
