What it is
Suktinis is a traditional Lithuanian mead (midus) with 50% ABV, produced by Lietuviškas Midus in Stakliškės, Lithuania. The name comes from the suktinis, a spirited Lithuanian folk dance — a fitting name for a spirit with character.
The recipe dates to 1963 and was created by A. Sinkevičius. It blends natural bee honey with 14 botanicals and berry juices — cloves, poplar buds, acorns, juniper berries, bilberry, blackcurrant and raspberry among them. After blending, it matures for 18 to 20 months before bottling. The result has earned Gold Medal status at the 2019 Berlin International Spirits Competition, Lithuania Liqueur of the Year, and the designation of Lithuanian Culinary Heritage.
