Veres Cherry Confiture

Whole cherries in a deep ruby set — and nothing else.

What it is

Veres is one of Ukraine's best-known preserves makers, working with fruit and vegetables grown on Ukrainian farms. This jar — sold here as cherry jam, «конфітюр» on the label — is their cherry confiture: nearly half of it is cherries (49.5 %), set into a thick, spoonable jelly with pectin. The whole recipe is four lines long: cherries, sugar, pectin, a squeeze of citric acid.

Stir a spoonful into strong black tea the proper varenye way, spread it on fresh bread, or spoon it over syrniki and pancakes. It also holds its shape in baking, which is more than most jams can say.
