What it is
A deep-coloured beet soup made with traditionally fermented (pickled) cabbage, giving it a rounded sour note that sets it apart from milder borsch varieties. Beet makes up the largest share at 32%, alongside potato, carrot, onion and tomato paste — the classic borsch combination, preserved in a convenient 480g can.
Empty into a saucepan and heat gently for a few minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve hot with a generous spoonful of sour cream and rye bread. One can serves two as a starter or one as a main.
