What it is
Sea buckthorn oil is cold-pressed from the pulp and seeds of ripe Hippophae rhamnoides berries. Its deep orange-red hue comes from an exceptional concentration of carotenoids, including beta-carotene, along with fat-soluble vitamins A, E, and K. Sea buckthorn is one of the few plant sources rich in omega-7 (palmitoleic acid), alongside omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids.
The oil has a bold, fruity, and slightly tart flavour with an earthy undertone. Use it cold: drizzle over salads, stir into dressings, blend into smoothies, or spoon over porridge and yoghurt. Avoid frying; heat degrades its heat-sensitive vitamins and carotenoids.
