About this product

Maslyata — known in English as slippery jacks (genus Suillus) — are small, smooth-capped forest mushrooms with a tender bite and a faintly sweet, woodland flavour. The "butter" in their Russian name refers to the slick, glossy cap, not the taste.

A delicately marinated jar of maslyata is the quiet luxury of the Russian appetiser table. Drain, dress with sunflower oil and a few fine rings of red onion, and serve with cold spirits, dark bread, and boiled potatoes; or chop into a winter mushroom-and-onion salad. They're also excellent stirred into Olivier or vinaigrette right before serving, so they keep their shape.

Ingredients

Maslyata mushrooms (Suillus), water, salt, sugar, acetic acid (E260), garlic, dill, bay leaf, black pepper, allspice.
