What it is
Solyanka is one of the great soups of Eastern European cuisine — a deeply flavoured, slightly sour broth built on mixed meats, pickled cucumbers, olives and tomato. Kedainiu Konservai (Kėdainių konservų fabrikas) has been producing canned foods in Lithuania since 1948, and their solyanka stays faithful to the original recipe: generous chunks of meat in a rich, tangy stock that warms you through.
The jar format makes it genuinely convenient — no chopping, no long simmering. Open, heat, and ladle into a bowl. A squeeze of lemon and a spoonful of sour cream finish the dish exactly as tradition demands.
Heat gently in a saucepan over medium heat for 5–7 minutes. Serve with a slice of rye bread and a wedge of lemon on the side. Sour cream stirred in at the end adds richness and rounds out the sourness.
