What it is
Tarhun — tarragon lemonade — is one of the most recognisable Soviet-era soft drinks. Its vivid emerald-green colour and distinctly sweet, lightly herbal flavour made it a fixture at soda fountains and kiosks throughout the USSR. The name comes from the tarragon plant (Artemisia dracunculus), whose extract gives the drink its characteristic aromatic note.
This version is made by EMB — Essentukskie Mineralnie Vody (Ессентукские Минеральные Воды) — a Russian producer based in Essentuki, the spa town in the Northern Caucasus known for its mineral springs. Serve well-chilled over ice for full flavour.
Ingredients
Water, sugar, citric acid (acidity regulator), tarragon flavouring (nature-identical), food colours (tartrazine, Brilliant Blue FCF), sodium benzoate (preservative).
