LITHUANIA · LAŠŲ DUONA · 250G
What it is
Kūčiukai (pronounced koo-choo-kai) are the centrepiece of the Lithuanian Christmas Eve table — tiny, lightly sweetened poppy seed biscuits that have been part of the Kūčios supper tradition for centuries. Baked from wheat flour and generously studded with poppy seeds, they are characteristically crisp with a delicate, mildly sweet flavour. The name comes directly from Kūčios — the Lithuanian word for Christmas Eve — and eating them at the Christmas table is a cherished ritual. Made by Lašų Duona, a Lithuanian bakery with a long tradition in festive baking.
