What it is
Chak-chak is the national sweet of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan: tiny pieces of enriched dough deep-fried until golden, then bound into clusters with hot honey syrup. The result is crunchy on the surface, slightly chewy where the syrup soaks in, and aromatic with caramel and honey.
Eat in pieces with strong black tea, set out on a saucer for guests, or break a few into vanilla ice cream for a fast dessert.
