What it is
Gintarinis — "amber" in Lithuanian — is a soft golden wheat bread baked the traditional Lithuanian way, made with rapeseed oil and a little skimmed milk powder rather than animal fat. The crumb is tender and faintly sweet; the crust is light, easy to cut.
An everyday loaf that suits almost anything: thin slices with butter and cheese, alongside herring or sprats, toasted under a slice of cured ham, or as the base for a soft sandwich for school lunch.
Ingredients
Wheat flour (highest grade), drinking water, rapeseed oil, skimmed milk powder, sugar, iodised salt, yeast.
