What it is
Sliva (plum) caramel is one of the most recognisable sweets from Moscow's Rot Front factory — a confectionery house making traditional hard candies since 1826. Each piece has a lightly ribbed, lilac-tinted shell that snaps cleanly, giving way to a soft, fruit-paste centre made with real plum jam.
The flavour is distinctly Eastern European in character: not overly sweet, with a gentle tartness from the plum filling. These bonbons are sold by weight across Russia and the former Soviet states, recognised by anyone who grew up with classic Soviet-era sweets.
