What it is

The same Altai-region buckwheat groats Uvelka has been packing for decades — calibrated whole ядрица kernels with the deep, toasty flavour you only get from grain grown in the short, dry summers of southern Siberia. This box just makes the everyday cooking easier: eight food-grade boil-in-bag pouches, each one a generous single portion.

Naturally gluten-free, packed by Uvelka — the long-running Chelyabinsk-region grain house whose pale-yellow box is a fixture in Russian and Eastern European pantries. Eat the cooked grain with butter, milk for breakfast, alongside braised meats, or as the base of a thick mushroom kasha.

How to cook

Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil — at least 1 litre per bag. Drop in 1 or 2 bags, and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, until the grain is tender. Lift each bag out by the paper tab, snip the corner with scissors, and tip the cooked buckwheat into a bowl. Stir in a generous knob of butter and season to taste.
