What they are

These are Yashkino's take on the Dutch stroopwafel: two thin, crisp waffle rounds pressed together around a layer of varyonaya sgushchyonka, the boiled condensed milk that Russians love. It is close to dulce de leche, thick and toffee-like with a gentle caramel flavour. The filling is made with whole sweetened condensed milk, and there are six waffles in each pack.

Try the maker's own tip: rest a waffle on top of a mug of hot tea or coffee for a minute. It warms through, and the filling turns soft and stretchy. They are just as good straight from the pack, and they are a handy size for a lunchbox or an afternoon break.

Wheat flour, molasses syrup, sugar, vegetable oils (palm, sunflower), sweetened condensed whole milk (whole milk, skimmed milk, sugar, lactose), drinking water, humectant (sorbitol syrup), soya flour, egg products, glucose-fructose syrup, salt, emulsifier (lecithins), raising agent (sodium bicarbonate), flavourings, acidity regulator (citric acid), colour (beta-carotene), antioxidant (tocopherol-rich extract).
