About this product
Straw mushrooms (Volvariella volvacea) are the egg-shaped little mushrooms native to East and Southeast Asia, cultivated on rice straw — hence the name. They have a delicate, slightly sweet flavour and a wonderfully silky texture once cooked or marinated.
A jar of these turns up in surprisingly many Eastern-European pantries — they're an easy, mild alternative to button mushrooms. Drain and add to stir-fries, fold into a chicken-and-rice dish, layer onto a pizza, slice into salads, or warm gently into a coconut curry. Quietly versatile.
Ingredients
